Andres Roots RoundaboutQuarry Bank Mill, Styal - 3rd October 2012 The funkiest thing to come out of Estonia since the invention of Skype, Mr Andres Roots, recorded a session for Roots & Fusion with his group Roundabout at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal. Funded by Estonian Music Export, Andres Roots Roundabout played half a dozen songs including the first ever airing of "Rick Stuart's Blues"... We recorded them in the exhibition room among a collection of Patrick Lichfield's photopgraphs "Through Lichfield's Lens", which features 1000's of photographs from his personal collection. Hollowbelly Chadkirk Chapel and Country Estate - 18th July 2012 Roots & Fusion recorded the one man cigar box guitar band that is Hollowbelly at the 18th century Chadkirk Chapel in Romiley. He played through ten of his tunes with a little intro to each one like he was playing a gig - with anecdotes about his life. Rick had a chat with Hollowbelly about his music and also with Linn Robinson from the Stockport Council Tourism & Leisure team, who arranged for us to record at the Chapel, as well as other sessions at the Air Raid Selters, Staircase House and the Hat Works. |

The Hut PeopleStockport Plaza - 11th July 2012  To help celebrate the 80th birthday of Stockport's Plaza Theatre, Roots & Fusion recorded The Hut People in the beautiful art deco auditorium. Recorded by Jason Powell, percussionist Gary Hammond (ex-Beautiful South) and accordion player Sam Pirt (422) played several infectious, smile inducing tunes. They also had a chat with Rick, discussion many varied topics, including how many pieces of percussion Gary has, the names of Sam's accordions and their love of hutty facts. |

Chickenbone John Stockport's Air Raid Shelters - 20th June 2012Birmingham based player, maker and advocator of Cigar Box Guitars, Chickenbone John, played a session in the tunnels of Stockport's Air Raid Shelters for Roots & Fusion. As well as some slide blues, he also played a couple of well chosen cover versions - Tom Waits' Down In The Hole and Warren Zevon's Werewolves Of London. Rick then had a chat with him about his passion for the Cigar Box Guitar and about the annual Boxstock Festival, which this year is at the Band On The Wall in September 2012. |

Heavily influenced by the folk / rock music of the late 60's and early 70's, Galley Beggar talk to Rick and play some music off their upcoming sophomore album, simply titled Galley Beggar. Marina FloranceStaircase House, Stockport - 30th May 2012 Roots & Fusion recorded beautiful a session by the wonderfully talented singer, songwriter and guitarist Marina Florance in the 19th century parlour of Stockport's Staircase House, hidden away in Stockport's Market Place. She recorded a hatfull of songs, including "Cry" which won a national song competition sponsered by the BBC in aid of Barnardos. Big thanks to Jason Powell for the idea and sound recording, Linn Robinson at Stockport Tourism for the venue and all at Staircase House for their hospitality. |
